CNBC Inside India: Iran-U.S. deal may not remain good news over the long term

Steven Okun, CEO of APAC Advisors, joined Sri Jegarajah on CNBC's Inside India to break down what the U.S.-Iran MOU means for energy markets, trade routes, and investors across the region.
The U.S.-Iran ceasefire MOU is good news for the short term — oil prices ease, markets respond, and countries like India, South Korea, and Thailand get some relief. But the bigger question is what comes next. Freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz was once absolute; that certainty is now in question, and uncertainty has a price — in insurance costs, risk premiums, and government budgets across every sector.
This conflict has also accelerated two things simultaneously: the push to diversify away from Gulf energy, and the scramble to secure more of it. There's real opportunity in that for investors who can navigate the complexity — but also real challenges, depending on your country, your sector, and where you sit in the supply chain. The bottom line: this isn't a return to normal. The world before this conflict isn't coming back.
